This was the very first thing that we ever designed. We did it in Corel Draw of all programs and man was it a learning curve. Looking back at it now, there are so many things I would do differently, choices that I wouldn’t make, and so on. But beyond all that, the card has it moments. The background is actually all stitched together from scanned images the client provided and the car is the very first attempt at cutting out a background and compositing. We ended up giving everything the blue wash because it was way to busy with all the original photo colors and everything was getting lost. The cool part of it is the contrast between the blue and the red which creates an almost 3D feel that was totally accidental at that period but ended up being a big hit with the client. The lack of padding makes me queasy today but it does add a certain raw, do-it-yourself type of feel which turned out to be exactly what the company was about (another happy accident).
